- Exploration of visual metaphors from my research. I found particular phrases like 'each isle is a psychological funnel' and 'Maze' to be really useful in terms of visual exploration.
- As I work in a shop, I felt it was necessary to record some images of shop layouts and interiors whilst there. As I was drawing, I felt that I was building up a scene using various elements like lighting, and furniture which inspired an idea. Based on the concept of building up a scene, as each page is turned another element is added, perhaps explaining the effect it has on the customer and the environment? perhaps experiment with transparency and how it effects the design and function of the book.
I also created a mockup for this idea, using sheets of plastic to get a gist of how it would work. I actually quite like this idea and think it's unique and interactive element is really engaging. I would love to push this idea further, as I feel it is very closely related to my essay.
- I was also inspired to look into product placement and branding in supermarkets, and the use of bold colours to make products stand out. I could visually explore this by experimenting with composition and layout of the page, and the placing of the object within it. I want to reflect on the idea of products being at eye level, well lit, maybe even think about experimenting with smell and creating an experience within my book? Challenge this idea, make the products off centre, way out of the composition and really dull in colour (representing light).
